The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
The Strategic Performance Office paves the way for sustainable growth.
The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
The Strategic Performance Office envisions the BSA serving a larger number and more diverse group of youth in 2026.
Strategic performance management helps the BSA apply its strategy throughout all levels of the organization by communicating simple, realistic, and appropriate guidelines and expectations.
Successful performance management is powered by research, substantive data, and clearly defined metrics that help set the goals for the organization.
Although strategic performance management includes several different methodologies, such as Six Sigma, balanced scorecard, activity-based costing, and total quality management, the BSA sets special importance on the balanced scorecard approach.
The Scout Oath and Law are foundational. In addition, the Strategic Performance Office (SPO) fully embraces these values in its operations:
Integrity – We do not compromise BSA standards.
Fairness – We apply the same rules to everyone.
Sharing – We grow by sharing tools rather than protecting our positions.
Sustainability – We do things that have a long-term positive effect.
